Getting Here

Currency

US dollars are accepted as currency. US to Bahamian dollar exchange rate is pegged at 1:1. Two currencies are interchangeable throughout the Bahamas. You may get change in either or both currencies.

Major credit cards are accepted in most establishments. Some credit cards may charge foreign transaction fees.

One little quirk I have found recently has to do with coins. US and Bahamian coins are different slightly in dimension and in weight. As one visits laundromat in Marsh Harbour on the Grand Abaco Island, one will soon find out some machines only accepts American quarters, while others accepts both.

Travel to Elbow Cay

Fly to Marsh Harbour

Upon recent (2014) upgrade and expansion at the Marsh Harbour airport (code MHH), there have been more direct flights into the area from many cities including: Florida (Miami, Ft Lauderdale, West Palm Beach), Atlanta, Nassau (Bahamas Capital). Post Hurricane Dorian, more and more flights to MHH have been restored.

Book Golf Cart at Island Cart Rentals

Other than specially permitted local residents and businesses, visitors may drive gas or electric powered golf carts, available for rent at several local golf cart rental companies (listed below). It is advisable to book ahead of time especially during peak season.

A gate in the village by the clinic separates the island into two halves, the North End and the South End (Blue Tang is on the South End). Golf carts from either side of the often locked gate may not cross to the other side by town ordinance. If you wish to visit the North End, you may park the cart and walk through the gate.
